St Patrick's Day - Rainbow Day Celebration

We celebrated St Patrick's Day as part of our team focus on celebrations from different cultures this year.  We have a great teacher aide, Mike, who works in our learning spaces.  He is from Ireland so we thought this would be a great day to celebrate with Mike.
We focused on the rainbows and the different colours that we can find in these.  We made chains with pots of gold at the bottom, bead strings for bracelets and necklaces, hand print shamrocks, clouds with rainbows hanging which we made into kites, and potato print rainbows.
We practiced a lot of skills doing these activities and found out a little bit more about Mike and the country he is from.  It was a lot of fun and we had a lot of time to develop our oral language with each other while completing some new activities.

Happy St Patrick's Day everyone!

Ilam Kindergarten Visit

This morning we had some lovely visitors from Ilam Kindergarten visit us at school.  Two of our friends are going to be coming from there soon to start at school - Brietta and Arthur.
We had a great morning together, showing them that when they start school there are lots of things that are the same between kindy and school but some things are different.
We hope they enjoyed their time with us!

Circles Numeracy Group

The circles numeracy group are learning how to count to 10 and to find the matching number.  We have been using our love of caterpillars and playdough this week to help us with our learning.
We rolled balls of green playdough to make caterpillars.  We then had to count how many balls we had made and find out who had the longest caterpillar.
We then helped each other to find the number on the number line.  We pointed to each number and counted along the number line to find the number that matched our caterpillars.
This activity also helped us to develop our fine motor skills as our fingers and hands were doing a lot of work with the playdough.

Small Sticks

We have loved our Small Sticks Hockey skills sessions this week.  We have been developing the skills of using the hockey stick with the correct hold, completing a haka stance, dribbling the ball and working together in teams to play an adapted game.  Our skills have really improved throughout the week and it was great FUN!
