During Hui time today we discussed what good choices look like in Piwakawaka.
We had some pictures and we had to spot when the children were making a good choice. Some of these included when the children were packing up, giving 5 and being a good friend.
After that, Mrs Ibell and Mrs Shamy-Brown used some puppets to role play different situations which might happen during our school day. We then had to help the puppets make a good choice in the particular situation.
At the end of Numeracy time, some children were spotted making good choices. Can you see what their good choice was?

Numeracy learning
This week we have been learning that we don't have to count the materials, especially when we are working with the same number of items that have been separated into two group. To check our learning, we have been trying to count on from the biggest number using tens frames in our heads.
We have also been making up number stories about frogs and tadpoles and telling our numeracy buddies.
Cyrus and Tian Xi have really enjoyed using our Morphun blocks to make some new creations this week. They have other great shapes to use and connect using little rods that slide into groves.

Discovery Time
We again had another busy week at Discovery Time. We had helpful helpers in the garden, scientists watching the caterpillars and butterflies, bubbles, birds in the forest and a designer at work with bottle top lids.

Butterfly Feeders
This week in investigations we wanted to learn what butterflies eat and how they can get their food.
We learned that sometimes butterflies need some help to get food. We decided to make some butterfly feeders to hang from the trees.
We learned that sometimes butterflies need some help to get food. We decided to make some butterfly feeders to hang from the trees.
First we needed to tie the string on to the lids. We then made the strings bright and colourful by threading beads and cut up straws onto them. We know that butterflies like bright colours.
Next week we are going to hang these from the trees in our butterfly garden and put some fruit out for them to eat.
We wonder what fruit they will like?

Small Sticks
Check out how far our skills have come. This was our last session of Small Sticks hockey and we were VERY fast at dribbling and keeping hold of the ball at the end of our stick.

Hockey Position
We have been learning how to stand in the hockey position. You need to stand like an All Black doing the Haka!
Check us out!
