Circles Numeracy Group

The circles numeracy group are learning how to count to 10 and to find the matching number.  We have been using our love of caterpillars and playdough this week to help us with our learning.
We rolled balls of green playdough to make caterpillars.  We then had to count how many balls we had made and find out who had the longest caterpillar.
We then helped each other to find the number on the number line.  We pointed to each number and counted along the number line to find the number that matched our caterpillars.
This activity also helped us to develop our fine motor skills as our fingers and hands were doing a lot of work with the playdough.

Skylar-Rose's Discovery Time writing

The Te Waka o Matariki group write about what they did at Discovery Time every Monday morning after morning tea.
This week we all drew pictures of what we had done and then Miss Browne chose Skylar-Rose's picture because it had lots of detail in it.  Skylar-Rose told us a sentence that matched her picture and we all helped to stretch out the sounds that we could hear.
Miss Browne did most of the writing but some of us helped.  We know how to write 'I' and Nyah knew how to write 'the'.  We are super proud of these girls.
What a super sentence Skylar-Rose.  It is so nice to tell us more than one thing that you did.

Values Dragonflies

Our school values are represented on our beautiful carving, Hine Taiao, by a dragonfly close to her heart.  We hold our values very close to our hearts and try to use these everyday - at school, at home and in our community.  Our school values are Integrity, Compassion, Excellence, Respect and Tolerance.  We have been making values dragonflies to go on our windows so the sun shines through the wings and puts the colours around our learning space.  Come in and have a look at what the finished product looked like!

Our First Week - Gardening

This week we have been working on getting our butterfly garden ready to plant.
Today we started planting the body of our butterfly. We checked the plan we designed last year to figure out where we needed to put the bricks and the tires. We then put some new soil in and planted the body of our butterfly with orange flowers.
We really enjoyed gardening and are looking forward to finishing the planting next week.
