Butterfly Feeders

This week in investigations we wanted to learn what butterflies eat and how they can get their food.
We learned that sometimes butterflies need some help to get food. We decided to make some butterfly feeders to hang from the trees.

First we needed to tie the string on to the lids. We then made the strings bright and colourful by threading beads and cut up straws onto them. We know that butterflies like bright colours.

Next week we are going to hang these from the trees in our butterfly garden and put some fruit out for them to eat.

We wonder what fruit they will like?

Butterfly Garden

We have been working hard to get our butterfly garden ready for the butterflies and caterpillars. We worked together to fill the tires with soil and to plant the Swan plants.

We really enjoyed looking for caterpillars, eggs and other creatures in the garden! 

Our First Week - Gardening

This week we have been working on getting our butterfly garden ready to plant.

Today we started planting the body of our butterfly. We checked the plan we designed last year to figure out where we needed to put the bricks and the tires. We then put some new soil in and planted the body of our butterfly with orange flowers.

We really enjoyed gardening and are looking forward to finishing the planting next week.
