Chinese New Year Celebrations

This week we had our first cultural celebration for Chinese New Year.  We are very lucky to have a Lion's mask that lives in our school library.  We were able to use this to look at a dance on youtube and then have a go ourselves.  We LOVED being under the material and dancing up and down to the music.
We also made some dancing dragons which you can see on our display in the Red Room.

Before school some of us chose to make some cream cheese wantons.  These were really simple to make and used wonton wrappers, cream cheese and water.  We put some cream cheese in the middle of the wrapper, wet the wrapper around the outside with water and then scrunched them up.  They were then cooked in a dry frying pan until they were crunchy.

We ate these just before home time on Friday.  YUM YUM!  There was so much crunching and children wanting more.  It was great to see nearly everybody have a go at trying to eat something new.

We wish all our Chinese visitors to our blog a very happy New Year of the monkey.
